Calibration test benches for gas meters
Calibration test bench for gas meters
Calibration of domestic gas meters (G1,6…G400)
The test bench is especially designed for the calibration of domestic gas meters (diaphragm gas meters, ultrasonic gas meters, thermoelectric gas meters). The test bench has a modular design – it is possible to combine 1×6 to 4×6 clamping points for gas meters. The modular design allows 1 to 12 as meters to be tested simultaneously. In parallel, up to twelve test items can be adapted, run in and leak tested. The leak tests are carried out automatically.
The gas meters are tested at three or more measuring points. A magazine made of three sonic nozzles is used as a flow sensor. The nozzle magazine can be exchanged with just a few hand movements so that up to five different as meter types can be calibrated on one test bench. Optionally, a nozzle drum with nine combinable nozzles can be used. This allows the generation of up to 512 different flow points. This means that all five gas meter types G1.6…G10 can be tested without nozzle change.
Tests are carried out in accordance with the PTB Testing Instructions Volume 25 and 29 and in accordance with DIN EN 1359.

Critical / Sonic nozzles
Flow measurement elements with highest accuracy
EP Ehrler Prüftechnik manufactures sonic nozzles in the flow range from 0.005 up to 2000 m³/h. In addition to the standard range, EP Ehrler Prüftechnik offers customerspecific nozzles which are perfectly designed for your application in accordance to DIN EN ISO 9300*. Nozzle holders including sensor connections are available for all nozzle sizes for installation in customer applications
Several nozzles can be combined to set several volume flows, allowing a high number of different flow rates to be generated rapidly. It is possible to generate e.g. 2^8 = 256 different flow rates using 8 critical nozzles. Binary staggering of the nozzles ensures a uniform coverage of the volume flow range.
* For flow rates less than 0.1 m³/h only based on DIN EN ISO 9300.

Flow generator
Simulating breathing air flows for the calibration of flow sensors (air)
The test bench is used to calibrate air flow sensors for lung function diagnostics and is designed for simulating the human breathing air. By using a piston system, constant flows and flow profiles such as sine, trapezoid or freely selectable curves can be generated via data point input (flow generator).
Flow measurement in medical industry
The test system is particularly characterized by the generation of stable flows in the low flow volume range. In the medical industry it is used to adjust or calibrate flow sensors, for example to measure human respiration. The human breathing velocity is very fast – the use of the piston system makes it possible to generate high flow rates and to regulate and, if necessary, adjust them at the same time.

GasPro – Mobile gas sampler
Representative cyclical gas sampling to determine gas quality in the gas network.
Analysing the gas quality in the gas network is essential to monitor technical specifications and ensure correct billing. The GasPro is a mobile gas sampler, with which cyclic sampling can be carried out easily and flexibly at any point from dry gas networks. The samples are collected in a sample cylinder in the GasPro and can then be analysed in a laboratory. The GasPro allows the separation of sampling and sample analysis and is therefore more cost effective and flexible than for example fixed installed gas chromatographs.
Applications
Natural gas quality
Assessment of natural gas quality with respect to corresponding regulations (e.g. DVGW) e.g. at network interconnection points and in supply areas with feed-in involving differing gas qualities.
SmartSim-validation
Validation of gas quality tracking systems (SmartSim) – comparison of simulated gas parameters with actual analysis values via GasPro samples.
Biogas quality
Determination of gas parameters at biogas plants.
Hydrogen quality
Determination of hydrogen purity.
Process gas quality
Determination of different process gas qualities
(available process gases on request).
Official calibration regulation of gas characteristics, PTB approval
GasPro is approved by PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, Germany) for use in gas parameter custody transfer assessment, e.g. for validation of gas quality tracking systems. Due to the optimized gas sampling process with the GasPro the error limit of calorific value is HS = 0.112 kWh/m³ (including analysis)....
HPPP480 Calibration system for gas meters with natural gas
HPPP480 Calibration system for gas meters with natural gas
The calibration system serves as a standard for the calibration of gas meters of natural gas. The supply of natural gas occurs directly from a pipeline. The gas used for calibration is then fed back into the pipeline. The system consists of the piston prover as a primary standard. Sonic nozzles for flow stabilization and as secondary standard. Turbine meters as reference standards. The Piston prover is traceable to the sizes both in terms of length and time. The system is optionally equipped with a calibration device for the diameter and length of the measuring tube.

Laminar Flow Elements
Flow measurement elements with highest accuracy
EP Ehrler Prüftechnik manufactures LFEs in the flow range from 0.012 to 4000 m³/h. In addition to the standard range, EP offers customer-specific LFEs that are perfectly designed for your application. Suitable inlet and outlet sections and the associated mounting accessories are available for all sizes for installation in customer applications.
The achievable measurement accuracy depends significantly on the sensor technology used, in particular on the differential pressure sensor. When using high-quality sensors, measurement accuracies* of up to 0.5 % MV can be achieved with LFEs in the measuring range of 1:10. In order to cover a very wide measurement range without restrictions in measurement accuracy, LFEs with overlapping flow ranges can be combined in one measurement setup. Alternatively, LFEs with correspondingly lower measurement accuracy can also be calibrated for an extended measurement range up to a maximum of 1:100.
*Higher measurement accuracies on request

Calibration of flow meters, e.g. gas meters, LFE, Venturi nozzles, MFM, MFC
Determination of characteristic curves for valves, fans, filters, etc.

RPD Gas meter box
Mobile calibration system for flow meters
Hydrogen approved
The gas meter measurement box convinces with its mobility due to the smart hard case in which our measurement unit is installed. In the test setup, this is connected between the gas meter to be tested and the consumer. The compact calibration equipment is ideally suited for on-site calibrations. Only mains voltage is required for the device to function. After the test item has been properly connected, the measurement software is started on the mobile end device such as a tablet or mobile phone and a connection is established. Now different flow points can be measured and saved. At the push of a button, a protocol in pdf-format is created and saved on the mobile end device. This can then be sent via the available services. For the connection of test items or also for media supply with air, various accessory components can be ordered in a separate case.
Features
Calibration of flow meters directly on-site
Mobile measuring box for data acquisition: Measurement data display via Android app
Use of a rotary piston gas meter for a reliable and precise reference measurement...
RPD Reference gas meters
The gold standard for low flow measurement
The rotary piston gas meters GM16 meet the highest demands on the reliable and precise reference measurement of low flow up to 0.01 m³/h. You achieve an excellent measuring accuracy of 0.5% MW + 0.005% EW. Both variants – with 1 or 2 HF pulse generators – are suitable for operation up to 6 bar overpressure. The new generation of reference gas meters is not only suitable for air, but also for hydrogen, natural gas and other non-flammable and non-aggressive gases. With the continuous, absolutely pulsation-free and highly precise flow measurement, the reference gas meters from Ehrler Prüftechnik are the gold standard in the field of low flow measurement – also for hydrogen.
Measuring principle
The reference gas meters GM16 operate according to the direct displacement principle (RPD -rotary positive displacement), in which two counter-rotating pistons convey a fixed volume from the inlet to the outlet of the gas meter with each full revolution. Due to the specially shaped pistons, an absolutely pulsation-free continuous operation can be realized (patent pending).
